MUSIC Audition Information & Repertoire Choices

 

Please send an Audition Video that includes the following:

 

1.  *SLATE: An introduction of yourself and your audition piece.

  • State your first name, last name, the name of the piece you are performing and the composer/artist who wrote the song.

 

2.  OSIS: Clearly state your OSIS number and what school you currently attend.

 

3.  Scale:

Instrumental:

  • Flute, oboe, trombone, tuba, electric bass play Bb major scale, one octave ascending and descending.

  • Clarinet, trumpet, tenor sax, play C major scale, one octave ascending and descending.

  • Alto/baritone sax, play G major scale one octave ascending and descending.

  • French horn, play F major scale one octave ascending and descending.

  • Violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar play D or A major scale one octave ascending and descending.

  • Piano play F or G major scale, two hands one octave ascending and descending.

  • Drums/percussion play the following rudiments on a snare drum:  flam, double stroke roll, paradiddle.

Vocal:

  • Sing a major scale starting on any pitch, ascending and descending. 
    (Do re mi fa so la ti do)

 

4. Musical Piece:

Instrumental:

  • Play one musical piece or part of a piece that is at least 16 measures long, but no longer than 2 minutes.

  • Classical pieces, jazz pieces, band/orchestra arrangements and etudes from a method book are all good choices.

  • Play on your own, with no electronic background music or accompaniment.

Vocal:

  • Sing one song or part of a song that is at least 1 minute but no longer than 2 minutes.

  • Broadway songs, popular songs that feature vocals and folk songs are all good choices.

  • Sing on your own (a capella), with no electronic background music or accompaniment.

5. Upload/Email your video to your myschools.nyc account.
 

All auditions must be received NO LATER than March 1, 2022
